Fillmore, UT to Panguitch, UT

Red Canyon, Dixie NF, Utah.

Beau and I both had a great sleep at the Love's RV Stop (ironic, I know) and took another slow start to the morning. It was 17 degrees when we went out for our walk. Coffee and a couple of egg burritos and Beau went to the doggy coral while I did some tank maintenance on the trailer and got the rig set to go. We topped off with fuel and jumped back on I-15. After about 70 miles we crossed over east onto highway 20. At the interchange I noticed several cars pulled over to the side as if giving the route a second thought. There were snow flurries now and the road projected a route going steep up into the hills. I was wondering if they knew something I didn't. Probably. There was a highway sign that said "Traction tires or chains required when flashing". Well, it wasn't flashing. On we went.

The snow fell in spurts but nothing heavy. The temperature dropped. We came to the intersection of highway 89 and topped off with fuel again as it looked like the only place for a while. We continued on and through the town of Panguitch and decided to go on up the road another to a BLM spot I had read about where we might park for the night. We found the road and the camp spots thick with red messy mud. This was not going to be a good spot unless we didn't step out of the truck. I did my best to turn around without getting the red goo all over the rig and got back on the highway and brave the next 30 miles to Bryce Canyon NP. The road got steeper and the falling snow got heavier. Five miles from the Park entrance I found a place to turn around. It was a whiteout and the temperature had dropped to seven degrees. It was not a good place for me to be pulling my trailer with no experience towing in snow or ice. We made a slow, safe decent back down through Red Canyon and back to Panguitch.

The Hitch "N" Post RV Park met up to the reviews in Campendium and had space. A nice level pad with hookups, laundry, clean bathrooms with showers, and a dog area.

After having dinner, Beau and I went to the dog area and played chase for a while in the dark. Iearned why playing chase is not a good idea. When it was time to get back on the leash and go, he thought we were still playing chase. After about 20 minutes of trying to get him to "come" he wasn't having it. I had to leave him there and go back to the trailer for treats and return for several more minutes of persuasion. Did I mention the temperature was well below freezing? Finally, I had to keep myself calm and remember I had started the whole game.

I kept the electric portable heater turned on for the night. I still did not have a plan for the morning but decided I may stay another night and try to visit Bryce in the morning.
