I could hear a train sounding its whistle somewhere off in the distance. In the morning light Beau urged me to get up and take him out. I turned the furnace up a bit more, got dressed, and we walked down from the plateau we are on and toward the frigid river. With the little whitecaps from the wind it was had to tell what direction it was actually flowing. There is a lower section to the campground with a number of small rental cabins, more RV sites, and a frisbee golf course. It really is a nice, wide open campground area. I have more yet to explore and it looks like they may have a large historical or interpretive center here also.

Back at the trailer Beau jumped right back in and snuggled down in front of the heater duct and I made coffee and some breakfast. Before I sat down there was a knock on the trailer door. I opened the door to a women all bundled up and wearing a watch cap with a patch that said "Park Ranger". She looked at me with a smile and said, "you still owe three dollars". I started laughing, apologized, and grabbed the $3 I had put right next to the door and handed it to her. I told her I hadn't caught the discrepancy until I had already placed the envelope in the box. It was all good. She was on it!

Wagons that used the ferry and winch (not wench) to crank (ramps up?) or ferry across river?

The leaves are swirling about the grass in the wind making an interesting sound. Beau was amusingly chasing them for a while. We walked on again and explored further up the river and saw the exterior of the new interpretive center and some of the historical artifacts along the path. We walked over and scouted out the dump station for tomorrow morning's departure before walking back to the truck and going for a bit of exploring. The town does have a bakery but it was closed when we got to it. A converted house serves as the town library and another old building serves as the Napa Auto Parts store. There is a municipal airport which consists of an airstrip. That's it. There were a couple of small fuel tanks and what looked like a large garage. Nothing more. There was a grill/candy shop/ice cream shop and a small grocery store. I stopped into the "Y Knot" Winery which had a tasting room and what looked like a fairly nice restaurant. It was also the pro-shop for their gold course and office for the RV Park across the street. Interesting that it is right next door to the State Park Campground and another RV Park is being developed next door to the Winery RV Park. A bit puzzling.
