Memorial Day morning we were up at 0500 and out the door minutes after 06. I had the truck fueled up and pretty much ready to go. Runningbird had only to put her pack and poles in the back seat and we could head over to hook up to the trailer. Only one hiccup here; one of her super cool, ultra light-weight, kid’s size trekking poles was missing. Where does one pole go? No time to ponder so the old set of poles came out and they would have to do.
I had been over to the rig the day before and had all the towing gear set out and ready to connect. All the systems were running and ready for a quick connect and go. We gave Beau a quick walk, mixed his CBDs with a can of cat food for him to chow on and we were out the door, hooked up to the trailer as smooth as could be, and on the road. Surprisingly traffic was light for Memorial day and we cruised down I-5 in the rain to the Starbucks in DuPont for coffees and a snack. Traffic continued to zip along right on through Portland and Salem. Beau sat quite comfortably in the back seat hanging out with his clan.
We had planned to stop and stay the night in Canyonville at a casino parking lot but we had made such great time and it was only early afternoon so we continued on to a casino in Yreka where we had stayed before on the 2019 trip when we started out on the PCT at Campo at the Mexico border. The only problem with staying here was the parking lot was on quite an angle for the trailer. We looked at the opposite side of the lot and it definitely was angled more toward the level so while Peggy walked the dog I moved the rig. Great, the trailer didn’t tilt to the right any more. It tilted the exact same angle as before but only now to the left! When Peggy got back she looked at me and laughed and asked if she should keep walking the dog while I moved it again. Funny girl. We had dinner, did a crossword puzzle and I took Beau for his evening walk. By time we got back Runningbird was hard asleep.
