A fairly uneventful rest and resupply kind of day. Not even a photo
Kind of a normal Zero day. Beautiful sunrise and a casual start. We had the normal coffee and time to read. Peggy to Beau across the 4-lane highway to the espresso shop only to find they were closed on Sundays, Mondays, and Tuesdays. Then some dogs from the nearby house came barking in their direction so they hustled back to our side of the road. We went to the laundry mat and Peggy and Beau again walked down to get coffee at the McDonalds while I did the laundry and visited with the owner and some of the many other Monday morning patrons.
We did a lot of checking in with folks at home, dried out backpack contents, and reloaded for the coming stretch. When hanging out Runningbird's Tyvek drop cloth I noticed it had a slit right in the middle of it. Turned out she had not taken her Frogg Toggs rain gear and had to improvise the drop cloth into a rain poncho during the last unpredicted downpour. Multi-purpose Tyvek.
The highlight of the day was dinner at El Bruno's Restaurante y Cantina with Runningbird and seven other hikers. There was Mouse from Tennessee, C-7, Chukar Bird, Recharge who was doing the CDT for his second year in a row, Alligator, E-Rod, Willy-Wa, and Runningbird. There was minimal alcohol and a whole lot of food and laughing. There was some discussion of a "pre-warning trail detour" due to a fire a bit north on the trail. It looked like there may be an additional ten-mile road walk around but nothing official yet. Runningbird and I discussed options if this came to fruition. Driving back to the trailer from dinner we noted the heavy rain clouds and wondered what the night and the following day would bring.
