Moving South and Westward home. Mixed emotions

The Deadwood Junction, Greenwood, BC, Canada
The "Deadwood" Junction in Greenwood lived up to its reputation. I had read the Google reviews some days earlier and the City Park Host had also recommended. We were there shortly after it had opened at 0700. There was a closed up old ice cream shop that didn't quite make it across the street with a perfect pull-thru for the truck and T@B. The Deadwood Junction was a funky, interesting, wonderful shop at the south end of the town. They made us great lattes and they had a delicious little "micro-bakery" as they called it, and as far as I was concerned, a micro was all that was needed. In addition to every espresso type beverage, they made smoothies, sandwiches, breakfast burritos, and served ice cream. I had a muffin and then Peggy ordered a large variety of treats to go. Things like a mini pecan pie looking thing, a giant date bar, a giant lemon bar, and a fantastic something-bar with chocolate on top and a white coconut other thingy on the bottom. I'm kicking myself for not remembering what it was called but evidently their quite well known. I'll get back to you on that. And know, I did not eat them all in one day. Almost though.

Midway Border Crossing into Ferry County, Washington
We drove the ten minutes from town to the border crossing at Midway and were first in line to wait for the 0900 gate opening. Once opened and called forward we answered all the usual questions and one of the guards had me get out and open the trailer so he could have a look inside. I thought it interesting that he didn't have me open the tonneau cover of my truck bed to check that also. Maybe he just wanted to see what the inside of a T@B looked like. Moving on -
Shortly after crossing through we turned right along the Kettle River and onto Toroda Creek Road and enjoyed the small country road through farmland and forest right down into the small township of Wauconda. We turned west onto highway 20 for about a mile then turned right on the small dirt road that went up to my friend JD's cabin. Jim and I had worked at Crowley for many years and he was my shift partner and commute buddy for about ten years. I often came up here to fish, help him lay some timbers when he was building, and we otherwise still get together when we can. JD had a super vegan lunch already for us and Beau loved getting out and running around with JD's dog Lizzie and chasing squirrels.
JD's cabin in Wauconda, WA
After visiting for a couple hours we headed back out west on highway 20 then south on 97 along the Okanagan River and then the Columbia River through the Chelan Valley and back onto Interstate 90, and finally home. And so good to be home. We unloaded the refrigerator and backed the trailer part way into the back gate so both the truck and trailer could fit in the driveway without unhooking. The rest would wait for another day. But Wait! There's more! Tomorrow.
